Lady in Coaching Session

Now, you know what ADHD is and what an ADHD coach does, I'm sure that you are wondering what an ADHD session looks like.

Most sessions are done via Zoom or by phone unless you are local and request your session be in person. Each session can look very different, as the client will determine what it is that they need support. With the client leading the way, there is a basic framework that a session follows. Sessions start with the client determining the topic they want to work on. The client and the coach work together to determine the outcome to be at the end of a session.

What is the difference between coaching, tutoring, and counseling?

I'm sure by now you are asking what is the difference between coach, tutoring, and counseling. They are similar but also very different.

Coaching involves regular one-on-one sessions where the coach and the client work together to identify specific areas of difficulty and develop strategies to address them. If working with an ADHD coach, these strategies might include creating structured schedules, setting reminders, using tools for task management, breaking down large tasks into smaller steps, and improving self-awareness about ADHD-related behaviors.is the practice of partnering with a client to move them forward toward their own visions for their lives. Typically, clients set the agenda for coaching sessions while the coach receives, reflects, and filters the client's thoughts to help them better make decisions and determine actions that best serve their interests.

Tutoring is additional academic and/or skills development support from a more experienced person. It isn’t simply teaching subject matter content. It’s about helping students to understand their own learning process and supporting them in learning in the way that works best for them. An example of tutoring would a math tutor may remediate lessons in the student's math curriculum and drill the student on specific problem sets to promote mastery.

Counseling is a collaborative effort between the counselor and client. Professional counselors help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil; seek to improve communication and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behavior change and optimal mental health. An example of counseling would be an individual suffering from anxiety due to losing a job, career counseling and planning, grief after a loved one dies or dealing with problems at a job before they become big.
